Christopher Priest, Class of 1961

Christopher is a novelist. His first short story ‘The Run’ was published in 1966, not long after leaving the school. He became a full time freelance writer in 1968, and his works since include the novels The Affirmation, The Glamour, The Prestige and The Separation. His most recent novel appeared in 2018, An American Story. His books have been published in 23 languages around the world.


He has won the BSFA award for the best novel four times, the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction and the World Fantasy Award for The Prestige, to name a few. Christopher has also written for The Guardian since 2002.


Notably, his novel The Prestige was released as a feature film in 2006, directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale.
