James Gibson, Class of 1988

Former boarder James Gibson spent 20 years working in IT for several international banks before taking a sabbatical in 2014 when he swapped bytes for bites to set-up an American ice cream business in Hong Kong. Seeing a fun and exciting opportunity to scratch an entrepreneurial itch, James opened four of the hippie ice cream brand Emack & Bolio’s stores in the territory and is planning more in the future. In 2018 James returned to the UK with his family and resumed his career in finance and technology. Emack & Bolio’s is still going strong and even though he’s a little further away James continues with his interests in the venture. James’ top tips for budding entrepreneurs: have passion in your venture, do your homework, bring in great people to fill the gaps in your own capabilities - and treat them really well!
